The Director of Philanthropy, will spearhead the major gifts program for the branch, manage the Annual Campaign for the branch and serve as a critical member of the comprehensive campaign team. Under the general direction of the Vice President of Financial Development, and working in partnership with the Regional Executive Director, branch leadership and dedicated volunteers, this position will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects, donors and major gift donors of $5,000 and above from individuals, corporations and foundations to advance the mission and initiatives of the YMCA. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Financial Development and will have an indirect reporting relationship to the Branch Executive.


Financial Development and Philanthropy:

  • Support association financial development plan and strategies, and advance a culture of philanthropy among staff and volunteers.
  • Manage Annual Campaign for the branch.
  • Manage a prospect portfolio to attain specific annual goals.
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle -- Identifying probable donors, managing a portfolio of existing donors, developing communication and engagement strategies per their interests and ensure that each major donor has a clear strategy and timeline in the gift cycle. (Moves Management)
  • Personally solicit and steward major donors ($5K+), or facilitate solicitation and stewardship through face-to-face visits with board members, community volunteers and/or executive leadership
  • Make at least 6-8 substantive contacts per month with an emphasis on quality personal visits. (e.g. significant moves that advance a relationship). Work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other development staff, and other leadership to cultivate and solicit donors for YMCA programs.
  • Provide personalized stewardship of major gift donors, ensuring donors experience high-quality interactions that foster long-term engagement and investment.
  • Develop strong and compelling major gift proposals, acknowledgments, reports and other communications.
  • Work with leadership and branch staff to ensure that significant donors in assigned area have multi-year solicitation, cultivation and stewardship plans.
  • Provide oversight of all major gifts prospect activity.
  • Working with Financial Development and Branch staff, prepare written materials, including relevant case statements, proposals, information bulletins and correspondences with major/leadership donors to inform them of the impact of their gift(s), and to keep them up-to-date about YMCA.
  • Lead and implement strategic donor cultivation and stewardship activities. Execute logistics, develop strategic event programming in consultation with leadership. 
  • Work collaboratively with association financial development team to manage Corporate Giving program regionally and in partnership across association when appropriate.
  • Support philanthropic efforts of branch Advisory Councils (volunteer leaders).
  • Manage all philanthropic efforts for the branch, including annual, capital, and special events to achieve a cumulative goal of $300,000+ annually for the branch.
  • Participate in development-related committees as assigned.
  • Participate in setting and implementing giving policies, guidelines, and reporting standards.
  • Attends meetings and conferences as program representative.
  • Assists with events, annual campaign and other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements

  • Knowledge of YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties’ mission, values, and programs.
  • A working knowledge of the Silverdale and Kitsap communities, its leaders and trends preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or four years’ experience in fundraising, business, or related field.
  • Experience as a frontline fundraiser with demonstrated success in personally cultivating, soliciting and securing gifts of $2,500+.
  • Computer literacy and a commitment to maintaining integrity of a central database.
  • Proven ability to work professionally, collegially and effectively with donors or other constituents, colleagues and the public.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel. Experience with Blackbaud, Raisers Edge is beneficial.
  • Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day.  Complete other online and in-person training as required.
